Sarah, thanks for sharing your experiences and insight about determining what you're worth and setting your price accordingly. This certainly is an important issue for business owners.

[...] Home Biz Notes points to an post by The Golden Pencil describing the way people discuss money - or really the way people DON’T talk about money. I think this topic relates to all kinds of freelancers. Here’s a snippet: As Anne says, especially if you don’t have a business background, it’s quite common to think that money seems to be somehow associated with greed. In fact it’s your earned income, just like employees get a wage. You have expenditure, running costs, charges and profit. [...]

I think that being able to talk about money is highly important & knowing what you are worth is even more so. I am an internet marketing newbie and this really came into play when I was choosing an affiliate to work with. I wanted to make sure if I took the time the pay would be relevant. Now that I have the right affiliates in place I am bringing in the traffic with artemis pro a piece of software I use to take one article and create & submit several hundred unique versions. Everything is going great so far. Thanks for your article it addresses an important issue for business owners.

Yes, talking about money is difficult for many home business, as well as writers. If you're selling items in a home shop or online, you'll have the prices marked. When it comes to services, home business owners so often are vague. Set up a price scale before you talk with your customers/clients. It can always be adjusted to meet various situations, but generally you don't lower it because you'll devalue your services.
