Collecting “No’s” on the Road to Success
May 8, 2009 by Mary Emma Allen
My husband and I came across a fascinating book, Go for No! by Richard Fenton & Andrea Waltz, that has given us much thought for conducting our home businesses and for life in general.
Have you ever heard someone say, “I’m successful because I’ve had more ‘No’s’?” I realized they had become accustomed to receiving ‘No’ along with ‘Yes,’ ‘but I didn’t understand the reasoning behind it.
In this book, the authors explain, in easy-to-read story form, the reasoning behind ‘No,’ and the fact you set a specific number of ‘No’s’ as your goal. This keeps you going through the ‘No’s.’ It also doesn’t let you get lulled into a sense of success when you get ‘Yes’ or a number of ‘Yesses’ so that you slow down (rest on your laurels) and even stop.
My brief explanation leaves a lot to be desired. However, once you’ve read the book, you’ll find yourself applying the ‘No’ procedure and getting beyond the crushing sense of failure ‘No’ often can give you. This theory applies to your life as well as your home business.
Let me know of your successes as you set a goal for ‘No’ !
