Do You Take Time To Celebrate Little Successes? Don’t Get Caught In The Hype Of Big Wins

August 18, 2008 by Yvonne Russell

With the Olympics, it’s all too easy to get caught up with Gold, Gold, Gold! A gold medal is wonderful, but the notion of failing if an athlete doesn’t win gold is an unhealthy one.

Unfortunately, it is becoming quite prevalent with commentators and in the news reports. This attitude often spills over into business too. Why not celebrate the little successes too? Everyday in sport, business and life, we experience little successes – mini milestones, personal goals, a new customer, a new contact, a new skill.

It bothers me in sport when someone comes second or third or any other placing, commentators don’t celebrate that achievement and headlines scream “Swimmer X failed to win.” The big wins are great, but they are only achieved by the stepping stones of smaller wins and successes along the journey.

Allow yourself to enjoy the little successes. They all add up and move you and your business forward.

  • What are some of your mini milestones or little successes and how do you celebrate them?

I’m actually trying to shift my thinking from shooting for small successes to thinking big. I definitely celebrate breaking milestones and small successes though. :)
