As I browsed through the columns I’d proposed for the newspaper series, mentioned in the July 7th blog post, Opportunities Present Themselves Years Later, I realized I have been involved in numerouis home business ventures over the years.  Some I operated individually, others simultaneously.  They would vary as we moved to different states due to my husband’s work.  Generally I was pursuing a number of ventures that would bring in extra income, yet allow me to work from home.  Sometimes I had a job outside the home, too.

 Dressmaking and alterations
Oil and watercolor painting on commission
Greeting card design
Freelance writing

Hard times make people inventive.  One of the newest and hottest home business ideas around is the used clothing store-in-a-closet idea.  The Wall Street Journal recently reported that women are selling their used clothing directly from home.
When I first read the title, I thought these women were selling on eBay.  Nope, they are selling their clothes directly from home.  Many of us have a variety of clothing at home, in many sizes, styles, and colors. I also know a few women (some of them in my family!) who have many pairs of shoes that could be sold.

In today’s changing economy, with graduates looking for jobs, I’ve found a number of them considering home businesses. They are venturing into the “real world” of earning a living. It’s a time for new beginnings.
While giving thought to developing a home business, you probably will be working as an employee for someone else at this stage, unless you’ve already been establishing yourself in a work from home career. However, in today’s Internet world, many graduates have been looking already into ways to earn income online, possibly to supplement while they were in school.
