Speaking Opportunities for Home Business Owners

In the previous post, Add Speaking to your Home Business Activities, I suggested that you start promoting your business and the items or services you offer by taking advantage of speaking opportunities.
“Where do I find these opportunities?” you wonder.
*Local organizations and church groups often are seeking guest speakers. They often look to local businesses, craftspeople, authors, and entertainers to share with them.
*Your town library may want local people to present programs. These aren’t always authors, but someone whose business or interest lies within a topic or theme the library is promoting that month.

“You want me to speak to a group?” you exclaim. “No way. I’m terrified to get up in front of people.”
However, you may want to consider this as a way to promote your home business and whatever you sell. Start by sharing with a small group, then work up to larger ones, if the opportunities arise. Sharing this way becomes easier the more you do it. I know, because I was petrified when I first had to do this (even giving a book report) in school and then as a student teacher. Now I enjoy it.

As you develop a home business or your hobby evolves into one, you may find occasions to give talks to groups about what you do. Of course, some businesses lend themselves more readily than others as topics for talks.
