Incidentally, anyone who is caring for or has been a caregiver for someone with Alzheimer's or a related condition might find my interview of Carol O'Dell of interest at Alzheimer's Notes (www.alzheimersnotes.com). Carol cared for her mom and wrote about it in Mothering Mother.

Laura,

Thanks for sharing your experience and excellent advice.

Although I never had primary responsibility for the care of my father, I shared in his care for several years. He, too, had Alzheimer's, and for a long time my mother kept him at home on the farm. She had help during the week, and my sisters and I took turns caring for him on the weekend. After I had a stroke, I was no longer physically able to help, and Mama eventually had to put him in a nursing home.

I can imagine how difficult it would be to have total responsibility for your father. He was blessed to have you.

Thank you, Courtney, for stopping by Home Biz Notes and leaving a comment for Laura. I also had to juggle work, home business and caring for a mother with Alzheimer's. So I thought Laura's account of her experience and the tips she offered would encourage others.
