Suggestions for Writers With Home Based Business

by Mary Emma Allen on June 12th, 2007

Anne Wayman, at the Golden Pencil, referred to my post, Meet More People - A Key for Promoting Your Home Business, when giving advice to freelance writers, who generally are home based.  As Anne explained, many writers can stay at home with their writing business, but it’s a mixed blessing.

So…In Get Out There and Meet More People, Anne advises, “Getting out and mixing it up with people can not only spark new ideas, it can be a great way to promote your business.  With luck, you can both find new clients and new ideas.”

Perhaps writers also choose freelancing from home because they tend to enjoy solitude.  I could spend hours writing at home and not be lonely.   But I find myself rejuvenated, new ideas sparked, and writer’s block avoided when I take time to meet people, both via the Internet and in person.

You can take Anne’s advice and apply it to most any home business, whether it involves writing or not and find you have benefited.

I agree that touching base with others whether online or in person can spark new ideas and new ways of thinking.

As you say your advice is readily transferable across the broad spectrum of home businesses, including writing as a home business.
