My First Day as a Full-time Home Business Owner
December 1, 2008 by Jean Murray
Today, December 1, 2008, is my first day as a full-time home business owner. Pretty exciting. Pretty scary.
I “retired” from my very well-paid job in educational administration, to work full-time on my freelance writing/book sales business. I have been doing this part-time since 2003, but much of that time was spent working and traveling on my “real” job, so I haven’t done much.
It’s exciting, because I have lots of plans and ideas. I have several books to write, and working with a coach on a major re-branding effort, and I have the possibility of some joint venture opportunities. And, of course my 2 blogs for Bizzia (Small Business Boomers and this one) and my gig as Guide for U.S. Business Law and Taxes on About.com.
It’s scary because I need an income every month, to replace at least some of the income from my other job. I know I can do it. I believe I can do it. It’s about (1) working hard, and (2) working smart. If it’s to be, it’s up to me.

Congratulations, You have accomplished what many of us are still aspiring to.
Congrats on taking the plunge, Jean
We’re looking forward to watching you succeed!

Congratulations for taking the plunge Jean!
I remember taking that same leap three years ago this January. I had freelanced part time for a number of years, but just didn’t feel ready to leave the security of a job with benefits and a 401(k) behind. That courageous first step into the freelance life is a big one, so give yourself a huge pat on the back for taking it.
It’s a tough economy, but with the right tools and entrepreneurial spirit, I know you will succeed. And if there’s anything I can help you out with or blog about that would be helpful to you, just let me know.
