Combining Home Business Ideas
December 9, 2009 by Mary Emma Allen
I get so many home business ideas running through my head that I know I’ll never have time to do them all, so I’ll have to analyze and choose. However, I could combine some of them.
What if I combined my idea of making postcards and note cards from my art with the recent idea of creating recipe cards and postcards? I’m digging out some of the art I’ve done over the years, including copies of card designs I once sold in shops. When I view the art from the vantage point of my current years, I don’t consider it half bad. I …read more
A Postcard a Day for Friendship and PR
September 23, 2009 by Mary Emma Allen
I’ve always enjoyed writing and sending postcards. Even with the speed and ease of e-mail, instant messaging, and Facebook, I still practice this habit. I’ve discovered it’s very helpful in keeping in touch with customers and business associates, people I meet in my travels, friends and relatives.
I try to write at least one postcard a day. Sometimes these are cards my husband and I make that involve our business news. Others may be cards from my paintings and his photos. There also are cards that contain illustrations from my books. We may add inspirational and motivational sayings. Others simply have my …read more
Debbie Macomber’s Postcards…a Great Promotional Technique
August 25, 2009 by Mary Emma Allen
Today I received a large postcard from best selling author, Debbie Macomber…addressed to me and sent from Debbie’s office in Washington. No, it didn’t have a personal note (although some in the past have been signed), but it announces Debbie’s books related to Christmas and those that would make great Christmas gifts. One even is a recipe book. Another is a children’s book, even though Debbie is renowned for her romance stories.
The card is colorful and eye-catching. It gives me information, at a glance, of some of her books I wasn’t familiar. Coincidentally, the card arrived shortly after Debbie’s monthly e-mail newsletter.

In today’s high (and higher) postage world, we try to find ways to cut business expenses, yet still be effective with our publicity and promotion. Sending postcards remains fairly inexpensive…at least sending postcards instead of letters whenever possible.
I’ve written an article at Blisstree’s Arts and Crafts section about Using Postcards for Craft PR. Here I mention various reasons to utilize this method for business and for personal communication that ultimately aids your business.
I’m talking about postcards that advertise your book, your craft, your products or services. In addition to announcing news about your business, you often can use postcards for personal …read more
Do You Use E-Cards In Your Home Business?

E-cards and postcards…do you use them? A discussion evolved about this at a blog I read regularly.
I used to open e-cards and enjoyed receiving them. Then spammers and hackers began using them for their own reasons, even to infect our computers with viruses. So there is only one person whose e-cards I’ll open. (Some say they don’t even open cards from people they know from concern someone may have “borrowed” their friend’s e-mail.)
However, people still like to receive cards and notes in the postal mail. So I spend the postage to send these to customers and special people in my …read more
Spreading Business Cheer For Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day provides an opportunity for families to have fun, and for you to do something special for your home business customers. Perhaps you decorate your shop or web site, give cards to your customers, have goodies to eat when they stop by, hand out a flower, hold a drawing or contest…in some way spread some cheer.
I’m sending out postcards to the customers I work with in my skincare and make-up consulting business. If I don’t have their mailing address, but have their e-mail, I’ll touch bases that way.
However, as one customer remarked, after receiving a postcard from me, “I …read more
