Why Do Certain Bloggers & Blogs Stand Out From The Crowd?
February 7, 2008 by Mary Emma Allen
Someone asked the question recently, “Why do certain blogs/bloggers stand out in your mind? Why do you return to their blogs?”
I started “pondering” and making a list.
- Sometimes it’s the topic, because we interrelate with it or can link to their blog more readily.
- It’s an easy-to-read blog.
- More than that, the bloggers who stand out with me are those who take time to do that “extra something.”
1. They stop by to leave a comment
2. They thank you for leaving a comment (personal e-mail as well as a reply on the blog)
3. They sincerely praise you when you’re a competitor (that takes a classy person).
4. They link to your blog posts and thank you for linking to theirs.
5. They’re there with an encouraging word if they sense your day isn’t going right.
My “pondering” makes me realize I need to do more of these myself!
Why do you visit specific blogs and keep returning?

Great post and so true. You points actually lead to one conclusion about blogging and what sets some blogs and bloggers apart. They engage in the conversation and empower their readers to do the same. Blogging is a conversation between you the blogger and your readers. By providing good relevant content and engaging in the conversation, you get noticed.
Thanks so much, Grant, for your comment and your insights about blogging. I’m pleased to learn I was “on topic” for this post. These are observations I’ve made as I’ve been blogging.
