Freelance Writing - Where Are The Jobs?

by Yvonne Russell on February 10th, 2008

HomeBizNotes.com

If you are new to freelance writing as a home business, or want to break out of the writing for peanuts cycle, here are a few excellent free job board resources to get you started.

Anne, also of The Golden Pencil, a must read blog for freelance writers generously shares where she finds her leads, as does Deb Ng.

There are numerous other places to search, but this should keep you busy. It’s always nice to take a moment and let the bloggers know that you found work through their site. I’m sure they’d appreciate it.

  • Do you have other favorite ways or places to get freelance writing work online, or in your local community?

I have RSS subscription to all the sites you mentioned :) They truly are great resources.

I also get lots of online writing jobs via the Problogger job board (that’s how I got to write for b5!) and the Sitepoint.com forums. Some “writing for peanuts” offers still show up from time to time, but I just ignore those.

Thanks for the reminder about the Problogger job board and the Sitepoint.com forums, Celine. Screening and sifting through jobs is all part of the process.

Does anyone else have any favorite job boards?

Thanks for sharing, Celine. Just about all job searches (whether freelance writing or otherwise) have gone online. Also, many businesses want your resume sent via the Internet or filled out online. You also can apply for jobs all around the globe, not just in your neighborhood.

I know Craig’s List has many job opportunities as well as other listings. Is that a good resource for freelancers to check out?

Craigslist has a flagging system where readers can indicate jobs that are not on the level.

Craigslist has some good jobs, but there are a lot of “freelance writing for glory not money” type jobs there too.

The Craigslist Curmudgeon here at b5 is a good read… tries to highlight some of the more outlandish cases.
