Home Biz Myth Busted - You Set The Hours You Work

by Yvonne Russell on October 22nd, 2007

Home Biz Myth:
You set the hours you work.

Ben Helps of WiggleBum, an Australian dog supplies business, busts this Home Biz Myth - the first in our Home Biz Myth Series.

Ben operates partly from home and also goes out to dog shows to sell supplies.

Ben says… You set the hours you work. Hmm, well not always. Sure, stuff that can be done alone can be done whenever. But things that involve interacting with others, particularly other business people, generally need to be done during hours that fit in with them.

Our suppliers are usually only open 9-5 M-F, and our trade booking contacts are often only available in the 6-8pm range. We won’t get far without either.

Our business (of which our WiggleBum site is the online aspect) has so far only survived a few months, however we’re still kicking, and I’ll be darned if I’ll ever go back to 9-5 working for “the man”.

HOME BIZ MYTH BUSTED!!
(Note from Yvonne: I need one of those fancy stamps from MythBusters!! ;)

Thanks Ben! That’s a classic myth we can all identify with… you set your own hours… if only!
