Work at Home Business Opportunities

by Jean Murray on December 3rd, 2008

I usually go right to the source when I find news articles of interest, but this time, I wanted to give credit to another “work from home” blog:  Empowering Moms.  They posted an article from CNN about “Companies that will hire you to work at home.” Many new work-at-home jobs are being created, and many companies are transitioning to home-based jobs to cut costs and keep valuable employees.

The jobs in the CNN article seem to fall into a few categories:

  • Call centers/Advice centers.  These require you to be on the line to receive calls, which might be difficult if you have young children.  On the other hand, if you are like me and you can be home during specific hours with few interruptions, it might be a good prospect for you.
  • LiveChat.  Similar to call centers, these companies want someone to chat online with customers who have questions or problems.  Same deal about being available during certain hours.  You also should have technical expertise in the area; these are good for Information Technology (IT) types of jobs.
  • Virtual Assistants.  I can tell you that having a virtual assistant is a wonderful thing.  Mine (Cindy at virtuallyfantastic.com) has been a wonderful helper for the past two years.   I’ll write more about how to become a VA in a later post.

If you are considering any of these opportunities, be sure to check them out thoroughly, and expect to have to be trained thoroughly before starting.

Virtual Assistant opportunities seem to be huge! As online business owners grow their businesses, having a VA just makes so much more sense over trying to make space in a home office for an assistant.

I agree, Debbie. I have had a VA for several years, and she is so valuable. Everyone who works at home should have a VA!
