Readers’ Responses to President Obama’s “Change” Effect on Home Businesses

June 17, 2009 by Mary Emma Allen

I’ve introduced  a poll concerning the effect of President Obama’s “change” strategy on home businesses, and discuss the topic at my Blisstree Arts and Craft blog.  As a result, I’ve discovered that my readers have pros and cons about the topic, depending on where’re coming from.

If they’re involved in a business that provides products for people who’ve lost their jobs due to the “change” policies or are feeling a pinch in their pocketbooks because of of it, the business owners think the Obama’s “change” is great.

For instance, someone who works in a fabric store (which could be in the home) indicated that business has increased for them because more people are making their own clothing, pursuing hobbies, and doing interior decorating instead of purchasing readymade.  Thus, for that business, the “change” is good.  For the consumer shopping at the store, Obama’s “change” generally has meant a loss of income and tightening of the belt and budget.

If someone is concerned about their livelihood because of cutbacks in funding for the art world or restrictions they feel could be placed by the government on their work (freedom of speech and impression), they begin to queston these “changes.”

What effects have you seen due to the “change?”  Are Obama’s policies meeting your expectations regarding your business?  Do you know of anyone who has been affected one way or the other?
