Using Twitter to Boost Your Home Business
March 29, 2008 by Mary Emma Allen
Twitter…how can you use this popular social media site to boost your home business? It’s all the rage and many people find beneficial for networking.
Over at Copyblogger, guest blogger Nathania Johnson has written a very informative post about this social phenomenon, Three Ways to Maximize Your Twitter Time for Networking, Marketing and Fun. Thus, you’ll be using your time for something beneficial for your business and not frittering it away on Twitter.
Here’s another of Nathania’s posts, How Twitter Helped Me Get 3 Solid Job Offers, and shows you just another way to use this platform. (This one appears at Social Media Butterfly.)
Brian Clark, of Copyblogger, also writes about his adventures at Twitter .
How have you been utilizing Twitter to benefit your home business?

Hey Mary Emma, the one question I have for you is have you used Twitter yet? Do you find value using it? If you are not using it, are you considering it?
I have been thinking about it, but it seems like something else I would need to keep up with and I am not sure I need to add anything else to my world. Blogging and keeping it fresh is more than enough for me. I barely touch my LinkedIn account, I never go to Facebook. So adding Twitter seems like something I would sign up for and then ignore it in my busyness. Let me know what you are doing. I would really be curious to hear how you are using it!!
Hi Darlene
Mary Emma is away at present, but I’ve been curious about Twitter too.
Some colleagues say it’s great for informal networking. Some have been offered freelance work through being found on Twitter.
I know what you mean about adding one more thing, especially as people say Twitter can be quite “addictive”, both writing (tweeting) and following others.
Hi Mary Emma!
What a coincidence! I am exploring Twitter as a business tool too.
Hi, I’m back from my travels and lack of Internet access. Thanks, Yvonne, for giving your input.
Darlene, no I haven’t tried Twitter yet. Like you, I thought it was just something more I’d have to keep up with. Like you I don’t regularly check my Facebook and LinkedIn accounts, although I’m trying to familiarize myself about them, just so I keep up with the techie world. I probably will sign up for Twitter at some point in time.
Laura, I read on your blog how you’re checking into Twitter. Keep us informed whether it works for you.
Hello Mary Emma,
I’d love to hear updated thoughts from you on how Twitter is – or is not – working for you.
I have to agree with the “highly addictive” description of it.
However, I also think it depends on whom you follow and who follows you. I know that the majority of people I talk to on Twitter – I’ve met before – either in person, via business or online – so the tweets tend to be fairly social.
But I believe that Twitter for business is definetly a possibility. (See Guy Kawasaki – who uses Twitter to expand his brand.)
